Bottom line:

An NBA referee (Tim Donaghy) is being acussed of betting on NBA games -- possibly games that he personally refereed. In addition, it is speculated that he helped "shave points" for these games. As of right now, Donaghy has resigned; however, nothing has been proven with regard to him betting on games. He also has a history of irratic behavior. His mailman claimed that Donaghy tried to run him off the road, and a dispute with his neighbor was filed in 2005. These allegations; however, did not result in any action by the NBA because it did not seem to effect his ability to referee on the court.

David Stern is quoted as saying that he would trade this scandal for the baseball steroids scandal any day of the week.

The FBI is currently investigating.

David Beckham will play his first game with the Los Angeles Galaxy next weekend against the English Premier League club Chelsea.

The most recognizable athlete in the world (according to the LA Galaxy website), Beckham has agreed to a five-year deal to play for the Galaxy. The deal to bring Beckham to America is thought to be the biggest in sporting history: The Galaxy will pay him at least $32.5 million, and up to $250 million over five years in a profit-sharing arrangement.

Beckham is celebrated around the world for his match winning skills as a player in addition to his overall contributions to clubs Real Madrid, Manchester United and England.

But clearly to me, the most exciting element of this transformative moment in U.S. soccer history (earmuffs, Pele)....

... is the arrival of a one Victoria Beckham ("Posh Spice") to the United States, that will be documented in a one hour special airing tonight at 8pm EST on NBC entitled "Victoria Beckham: Coming to America."
